Rumors about the iPhone lineup for 2022

There are still a few months until the 2022 iPhone 14 models are ready to sale, but we've been hearing rumors about them since before the iPhone 13 models were introduced, because these handsets are slated to get significant upgrades.

Due to customer unhappiness, Apple will change iPhone sizes in 2022, and the 5.4-inch iPhone mini will be phased away. Apple is likely to focus on larger iPhone sizes for its flagship handsets following the dismal sales of the iPhone mini, with a 6.1-inch iPhone 14, a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max on the way.

Since 2017, iPhones with Face ID have featured a notch on the front to house all of the necessary circuitry for facial identification, but that will change with the arrival of the iPhone 14. In 2022, the notch will be removed from iPhone 14 Pro models in favor of a new design. According to current reports, Apple will use a combination of a circular hole-punch cutout for the camera and a pill-shaped cutout to house the critical Face ID components. Unfortunately, this feature will only be accessible on the iPhone 14 Pro models, leaving the regular iPhone 14 models with a traditional notch.

Apple may also give the rear camera a makeover, with a thicker housing that will reduce the camera bulge. If this is accurate, the lenses, flash, and LiDAR scanner might all be flush with the back glass, however we've only heard one rumor stating this.

A titanium frame, as well as updated speaker and microphone grilles, could be included in some of the future iPhones. In order to counteract the consequences of faster CPUs and 5G connections, Apple may use a new vapor chamber thermal mechanism to keep the iPhone cooler.

New iPhones always have better cameras, and the iPhone 14 is no exception. Apple's Ultra Wide camera will be enhanced, and there's a potential a "periscope" zoom lens could be introduced, allowing for even greater optical magnification, but it's unclear whether this will happen in 2022 or 2023. There's a chance that the iPhone Pro models will include 48-megapixel sensors and 8K video capture.

According to rumors, the iPhone 14 models will likely keep the A15 chip introduced in the iPhone 13 series, while the iPhone 14 Pro variants will get an improved A16 chip.
